A teenage boy has been sexually assaulted at his home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, by a man he met online.

The 13-year-old met the 34-year-old on gay dating application Grindr on Tuesday.

A day later, the man went to the boy’s address at Killarney Heights and entered the home.

He allegedly sexually assaulted the child before leaving the area.

Police were called and the boy was taken to Randwick Children’s Hospital for examination.

At about 5.45pm on Thursday, the man was arrested at Campsie Police Station and has now been charged with aggravated sexual assault and using a carriage service to procure a child under 16 for sexual activity.

He has been refused bail and will face Burwood Local Court today.

It’s not the first time the app has been used by a man to allegedly have sex with a child.

In September last year, a 13-year-old boy was raped in the front yard of his home.

40-year-old Moud Ul Hasan Nuri has been charged over the incident but has repeatedly been granted bail since.

Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told Ray Hadley at the time, that his prosecutors got it wrong in failing to oppose bail.

“From my perspective, we should have stood up and asked for the matter to be bail refused.

“I am disappointed. These sorts of people shouldn’t be walking the streets.”

Grindr describes itself as “the world’s largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people” but is commonly known as a hook-up app, used to arrange sex.
