Melbourne Renegades have cruised to victory, chasing down a miserly 112 with more than four overs to spare.

On the back of being named in Australia ODI squad earlier today, Aaron Finch blasted 51 off 38 balls before being run out by Jason Roy.

In front of 23,586 raucous fans in Geelong, Cameron White continued his good form too – finishing 49 not out of 44 balls.

In a positive for the Sixers, Mickey Edwards got through three overs on debut but went for 31 runs.

Sydney Sixers’ season looks over after losing the first five games of the season while the Renegades march on ahead of a massive derby against the Stars at the MCG on Saturday.

Sydney Sixers have crawled to a score of 8-111 in a sorry night for the men in magenta as the Renegades took charge at GMHBA Stadium.

Johan Botha finished on 32 not out to ensure his side cracked a triple-figure score in Geelong tonight.

Nic Maddinson (24) was a shining light for the Sixers but even he departed in softly as Dwayne Bravo’s direct hit in the field sent him packing.

The West Indian was superb with the ball too, taking three wickets and looking damaging throughout – ending his four overs with figures of 3-29.

Mohammad Nabi was also productive for the Renegades once more, finishing with 2-22 off four overs.

ODI selection news, BBL recap and more. Here’s some of what’s making news in the world of cricket:

BBL action comes to Geelong for the very first time as the Melbourne Renegades host Sydney Sixers at a picture-perfect GMHBA Stadium.

Tonight’s clash looms as significant for both sides, albeit for different circumstances.

The Renegades have made a solid start to their BBL|07 – winning two out of three matches so far – and will be looking to cement a spot in the finals over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Sixers are in somewhat of a crisis, losing their opening four matches. Another loss tonight would effectively spell the end of their season with five matches to go.

Last time out, the Renegades were outclassed by Perth Scorchers as both Aaron Finch (0) and Cameron White (3) failed to fire with the bat. The Sixers were also last in action against the Scorchers but came a lot closer to securing victory. After posting 4/167 from their 20 overs, Perth Scorchers snuck home during the last over to complete the double over the men in pink this season.

Tonight’s match – which comes less than a year after GMHBA Stadium hosted a T20 International between Australia and Sri Lanka – is crucial for the Renegades both on and off the field. They’ll be hoping a near-capacity crowd jams into the 34,000-seat venue while also notching up their third victory of BBL|07.

As for the Sixers, it’s now or never. Lose tonight and they can kiss goodbye any chance of making the February playoffs.
