NSW seeking ‘urgent legal advice’ to keep notorious paedophile in jail

NSW is desperately seeking advice on whether they can appeal the release of notorious paedophile and child killer Michael Guider.

He’s due to walk free from jail on Thursday, despite efforts from his victims to keep him behind bars.

Guider has been in jail since 1996 after pleading guilty drugging, molesting and killing nine-year-old Sydney schoolgirl Samantha Knight as well as 60 child sex offences.

The 68-year-old will be released from jail on a five-year extended supervision order on Thursday after serving out his maximum sentence.

The supervision order has over 50 conditions, including that Guider lives in a halfway house and is subject to electronic monitoring.

NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman tells Ben Fordham he will make a decision within the next 24 hours as to whether he will appeal Guider’s release.

“I’m getting urgent advice on whether we can appeal the lack of success on the detention order, and whether we can keep him locked up pending that appeal.”
