Multiple weather systems carrying cold air from Antarctica have combined and are approaching New South Wales.
The state is shivering through a very chilly start to Wednesday, with temperatures plummeting around the city.

It was even chillier in the NSW Central West with Marrangaroo (near Lithgow) hitting -7.3 degrees at 5am, Goulburn dropped to -4.9 degrees and Canberra -5.
Wednesday will thaw out with a warm and sunny day forecast for Sydney as temperatures climb to a max of 23 degrees.
But temperatures will drop over the rest of the week, with high winds expected on Thursday and Friday.
It is good news for those heading to the ski fields, with snow forecast for Perisher, Thredbo and even Jindabyne.
