Teachers walk off the job one day after students’ performance drops to all-time low

NSW teachers have walked off the job this morning just one day after a report revealed Australian students’ academic performance has dropped to record-lows.

The 2018 PISA results, comparing the educational performance of 79 countries, revealed Australian students have slipped in the global education rankings.

Now NSW public school teachers have walked off the job to attend a two-hour update on their push for better pay and staffing.

NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell says the teachers are now back in class.

“Learning is continuing as it should be.

“[The PISA results] were disappointing results… what I think it does is tell me that we really need to focus much more on what’s happening in the classroom, we need that decluttering on the curriculum… and also revising the way that we’re teaching in NSW.”
